Painting Process

Sizing the canvas I like to soak the back of the canvas with water even after pulling the canvas tight by hand. For several years I stretched my own canvases using “unprimed” linen which was tightened with a hot water solution and rabbit skin glue. I prefer the primed surface for its consistency, but that extra snug fit from shrinking the primed linen proves a tight, evenly pulled canvas that has no bubbles or irregularities in the surface.
