| The First Layer In the past my under layers may have been thicker layers of paint that were allowed to dry, which created texture. I am personally moving away from texture and I’m focusing more on the image. I’m using smaller brushes and after each of the early layers I use a fan brush to completely remove any brush strokes that could dry like wagon wheel tracks in the mud. The smooth surface is conducive to realism and the softened edges from the fan brush prevents hard edges that trap the drawing or preventing the freedom needed to correct the drawing on the canvas if need be. The same skills used to render the subject come in handy in redrawing the details or correcting any errors at any stage in the painting process. | ||||||||||||
